“I surrender myself to the rhythm of the patterns, allowing them to guide my hand…”

ABOUT ME

Anjali Bansal Purkayastha is a British-Indian visual artist currently based in Hong Kong.A self-taught artist working across painting, ceramics, and digital media, Anjali views her practice as an ongoing chronicle of her life - a visual timeline of her journey across the many countries she has called home. While her Asian heritage is the foundation of her identity, her nomadic lifestyle lets her explore the fluid, shifting nature of identity and belonging.Anjali’s signature style is characterised by a graphical and pattern-based approach, where intricate patterns serve as her unique visual language. Her work is both intuitive and instinctive.Anjali's work has been exhibited in India, Singapore, Korea, Thailand, UK and Hong Kong, and is held internationally by private collectors. She is an artist member of ArtCan Org (UK) and HK Arts Collective (Hong Kong).

MY WORK

HOME SERIES

My journey across Singapore, Seoul, London, and Hong Kong over the past two decades has inspired me to explore the concept of home and belonging. I find solace in nature, which is reflected in my work, “Home is where the Green is”.My connection to nature is also seen in the use natural forms and intricate patterns as my visual language. I hope my work will inspire the viewer to reflect on what it means to be home (घर).Please email for the complete catalog of available work.

CERAMICS

In the last few years, I’ve begun a new chapter exploring the world of clay. I am drawn to the intimate and instinctive process of hand-building.I let my hands guide the form, allowing each sculpture to emerge naturally. Every piece is built and then painted, marking a new, ongoing step in my creative journey. Come along as I explore this new landscape. Please email for the complete catalog of available work.

NAZAR SERIES

Nazar (नज़र) series draws on my experiences of living in diverse cultures, weaving symbolisms from around the world to express the universal need for luck and protection.I invite viewers to reflect on the unseen symbolisms and beliefs that have been passed down through heritage into our everyday life. Please email for the complete catalog of available work.

OTHER SERIES

Every piece I have created is like a visual diary of my life. An unfolding story of where I’ve been and what I’ve felt as I moved across different countries.I invite you to explore these memories with me and see how the journey has evolved from the start. Please email for the complete catalog of available work.

SHARED SKY SERIES

Aasmaani (आसमानी) means ‘of the sky’ - it can be celestial, unexpected or heavenly. For me, it represents the sky that traveled with me from one continent to the next - the constant in a life defined by sudden shifts and new horizons. Please email for the complete catalog of available work.
